It came with a vengence. Wild, powerful and violent weather with a twist...a lot of twisters that is.
The day of February 10th started pretty good - sunny and nice. We were expecting heavy storms in the afternoon. But oh my, we didn't expect this kind of violence!
Just across from my office, Keller Williams Realty, just yards away, I could see this twister. It was coming toward me, dark, swollen, rotating and angry.
I took this picture and then ran to the safe room inside the office. This one was rotating very, very low and we didn't know when at what moment it would make a touch down. Thankfully it didn't! It went farther North toward Edmond and took it's carnage there by destroying shopping centers and neighborhoods.
Above: Twister just yards away from my office.
Another funnel was so close to my house, like quarter of a mile, we were watching it with our neighbors. I didn't take a picture because we were already in the underground shelter.
With this violent weather came huge amount of hail. From pea size to golf and baseball size. Winds were blowing over 60mph in Yukon which is on the West side of the Metro. The hail storm was pounding on the roofs and on cars. Braking the carvwindows and totalling the roofs. The sound was dreadful - like thousands of gun shots piercing the roof, windows and siding.
Schools were placed on 'lock-down' for over two hours. Loss of electircal power...Cars lost windshields, windows and we could see the dents on hoods. Local hospital lost few windows...

There was a lot of damage....
Those few hours felt like they were taken out of a twilight zone... by the grace of God we survived...

That's how big the hail was....and it was everywhere

Streets covered with hail

Hail everywhere....covering everything like a blanket of snow....

Northwest side of Oklahoma City....entrance to the Gaillardia neighborhood covered with hail...

Experience isn't expensive, it's PRICELESS!

Bo~ I am so glad you survived it ok and the twister jumped ahead! We are experiencing heavy winds and rain on and off right now, but I am sure nothing like what you had! Vickie
Vickie - thank you for stopping by and stay safe!
Bo, amazing pictures. I will use these to let my clients know that hurricanes aren't so bad! Hope you stay safe and sound.
Bo: That's amazing! The force of nature...
Thank you for documenting this for us!
Gabe - I don't like either one of them! Today is peaceful and quiet. Even the sun came out later...like nothing happend...
Mirela - that was a true force of an angry nature!
Bo, those are some really incredible photos. Glad to hear you are ok.
Dan and Amy - thanks for your kind words...and we are ok here...nice and quiet finally...
with smiles,
Bo
Bo, I'm glad you are safe. We got the very tip end of that storm with lightning and hail but nothing like what you got up in Oklahoma. Dramatic photos.
Shirley - we definitely got our share of 'entertainment'... I am glad you are fine and safe girl!
Bo, I grew up in Kansas in a house with no basement, but I never actually saw a funnel cloud. Your photos are amazing! I'd have been in the safe room and way to chicken to try to get a picture!
Patricia - I would bet that you would be taking pictures just before closing the lid...lol...This twister was close to us but still far enough to be on the safe side...I wouldn't like to 'earn my stripes' in the chasing tornado dept..
WOW! That's the largest hail i've seen since the movie "the day after tomorrow". That's big enough to kill a person. You did a really really good job showcasing the weather there and i would'nt be surprised if you got a call from a local media reporter asking to use your story or pictures. Excellent job. I've heard good things about Oklahoma, but wow, that is a little scary :)
btw: Congrats on getting featured in brad's post about outside blogs. Thats' how i found this post as well.
Sincerely, victor
Victor...thanks for compliments...I guess a lot of us are used to this kind of weather her, and I don't mean that we are cavalier about it, no...but it is not any different than the hurracaines, floods etc...we treat it seriously but with caution expect the twisters to come with the season...
I didn't know that I was featured in Brad's post...LOL...thanks for letting me know...
With smiles, Bo
PS. I visited Lancaster county few years ago and it was absolutely beautiful and 'painterly' - ready to be 'copied' on canvas...loved it!
